Write chacks in order by number so you know which checks have been paid. Write the date in the proper space. Write the payee's name on the line following Pay to the order of. Write the amount of the check in figures after the printed dollar sign and write the amount clost to the dollder sign to prevent someone form altering your check. Write cents figures close to the dollar figures so that additional numbers cannont be inserted. Write the dollar amount it words on the line below the payee's name and draw a line after. Write the purpose of the payment on the line at the bottom of the check. Sign your checks with the same signature you used on your signature card. Use current date, always fill in the amount, write void on messed up checks, avoid making checks payable to "cash" or to "bearer" and record every payment from your checking account.
